Apulia,Lucania and Sicily are all part of modern Italy, each with its distinct identity, history, and culture. Apulia is located in the southeastern part of the Italian Peninsula, bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the east, Lucania was an ancient region in the southern part of the Italian Peninsula, bordered by Apulia to the north and Bruttium (modern Calabria) to the south and Sicily was the largest island in the Mediterranean and it was an important crossroads for trade, culture, and military strategy. At the beginning of thie second punic war, Hannibal’s primary objective was to undermine Rome’s power, and Sicily was seen as strategically important in this context.
