Back in the Valencian Community
Proyecto : Through the Iberian kingdoms
From the perspective of the Second Punic War, the Valencian Community held significant strategic importance in the Iberian Peninsula due to its location along the Mediterranean coast, serving as a crucial passage for Hannibal on his march toward Rome. Among its cities, Saguntum stood out as one of the most pivotal during this period. Its strategic position and alliance with Rome made it a key target for Hannibal. The attack on Saguntum by Hannibal's forces in 219 BC was a critical event that ignited the conflict, marking the beginning of the Second Punic War.
